Oprah has launched a book club podcast thats exclusive to the Apple Podcast platform.

This effort is starting off in a limited fashion.
(Interestingly enough, this would have been an unthinkable development even a few years ago.

Obviously, were hoping to expand this to as much of the system as we can over time.
Theres still some technical hurdles we need to cross.
There will probably be some political hurdles as well.
This is traditionally how they derive power.
Some stations might be reticent to cede further power to NPR.
It makes too much sense.
That can be a scary thing.

Whats the deal with New Audible?
(Youll find similar arguments from certain podcasting corners against Spotifys use of the term as well.)
The answer to the first question is straightforward: the theory hasnt really changed very much.
Shout-out to the latter.
The answer to the second question requires a little more drama.
The second is Spotify.
And this is without our involvement.
You know, this just happened by proxy of us being a platform.
So we started seeing it resonating really well into peoples lives.
If ever there was a genuine existential threat to Audible, its podcasting and Spotify put together.

There are a couple of ways to think about this.
And even if youdosee it as why not?
Audibles return to podcast-style programming doesnt fundamentally change anything.
Rather, its an acknowledgment that a lot has changed.
