This one, at least, bears fruit, but not without first placing our heroes in peril.

They also find that Gor Koresh cant be trusted.

He wants Mandos armor and is willing to kill him to get it.

Mandos prepared for this.

(Once again,The Mandalorianisnt trying too hard to hide itsLone Wolf and Cubinfluence.)

(That doesnt work out so well for Gor Koresh.)

Destination: Tatooine, to look for another Mandalorian who might be able to help.

Chief among them is Peli Motto, the droid-loving mechanicplayed by Amy Sedaris.

Shes happy to see Mando, whos even grown a little less leery of her clumsy droids.

(Maybe his time with IG-11 has changed his heart.

Also, RIP IG-11.)

He greets Peli as warmly as he greets anyone but doesnt take her up on her offer to babysit.

Shes a friend, probably, but hes sticking with his Where he goes, I go credo.

Naturally, they dont get along at first.

Mando wants the Marshals armor.

The Marshal would, understandably, rather not give it up.

Its helped him maintain order and, in turn, earn the locals respect.

They like their marshal and they dont like outsiders.

But the would-be antagonists find they have a common foe when a krayt dragon rolls through town.

It also just gets scarier as the episode progresses and we learn the full extent of its powers.

Stumbling into a fortune allowed the Marshal to purchase some Mandalorian armor from Jawas.

(Where didtheyget it?

Last season sawThe Mandalorianbringing some nuance to that dynamic via Mandos civil relations with the Tuskens.

This episode deepens that nuance.

Sure, the Tuskens kill Mos Pelgos citizens (Mos Pelgoans?

), but they also believe the settlers stole their land so … its complicated.

At first, the Marshals having none of it.

He wont drink from the stinky, seemingly smoke-producing fruit the Tuskens offer him.

The strategy keeps not quite working until Mando descends, literally, into the belly of the beast.

But someone is watching their retreat.

Butwho is he playing here? And could that armor have been his?

Sand People sounds like, and otherwise likely is, a slur.

Hmm …

Another familiar droid making an appearance: R5-D4.

Apparently R5 didnt just survive, he found a happy home with Peli.

That red scarf Olyphant wears bears a resemblance to the sort favored by John Wayne, doesnt it?

The Mandalorianhas often played like a Western, and this episode is one of the most Western-inspired entries yet.

But the basic plot stranger comes to town to kill the monster the locals cant owes a lot toBeowulf.
