It has been clear from the very beginning that something strange is going on with Hannah Grose.

But Hannahs strength and warmth have been offset by the occasional inexplicable incident.
Periodically, Hannah has seen the exact same crack in different wallsand kept quiet about it.
But thats not the kind of thing a person can ignore forever.
Eventually, the wall needed to come down.
So whats the matter with Hannah Grose?
A job interview with Owen might pivot into a conversation about the writer and theologian Thomas Merton.
Or most chillingly it may pivot into Owens sudden, panicked proclamation that something is wrong with Miles.
Before the episode drops its final tragic twist, we learn the ultimate fate of Peter Quint.
When he leaves Miss Jessels bedroom, he is greeted in the hall by Flora and Miles.
We dont know much about this ghost, but Miles and Flora do.
But Peter Quints death has an unexpected side effect.
And just when youve caught your breath long enough to process that particular twist, another one drops.
Hannah flashes back to a memory of a confrontation with Miles when she catches him smoking at a well.
Unfortunately, this Miles is Peter Quint, and he shoves her down the well, breaking her neck.
The last thing she sees before she dies is the crack on the stone wall.
Ghosts dont want to be dead any more than the living do.
For now, and maybe for forever, she belongs to Bly Manor.
If Bly really is a mousetrap, its done a tremendous job ensnaring people over the past year.
Rarely does the horror-movie cliche of a ghost having unfinished business come across so poignantly.
This is my home, Peter Quint.
Youll leave long before I do, Hannah warns Quint in life.
I dont thinkBly Manorleaves any room for the latter reading.
Both TNia Miller and Rahul Kohli are so, so good in this episode (and this series).
Hannah is pretty direct with Miss Jessel about her concerns regarding Peter Quint.
Owen is much more subtle about it, but he clearly shares them.
Forever, if you oughta.
Do you want to die a horrible, choking death?
Hannah asks Quint (in Miless body) as she chides him for smoking a cigarette.
As it turns out, he already did!
As always, theres an emptiness at his core that he cant figure out how to fill.
Before he leaves the bedroom, Quint flirtatiously tells Jessel hes the stableboy to her queen.
