With Halloween right around the corner, its the perfect time for a marathon of television frights.

And the man is coming to kill him.

Its bad enough when its just in a mirror, but its eventually in glasses and even eyes.

Some of the production values are dated, but Scorsese delivers enough great shots to justify a revisit.

Even with all the memorable seasons and episodes that followed, this still has people chatting.

Pick the wrong door, and therehellbe.

No wonder so many 90s kids grew up to be horror fans they were chasing Zeebo.

Its as innovative a half-hour of television as any show had the guts to air in the last decade.

And its deeply unsettling.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg of10 Cloverfield Lane, Playtest is as adrenaline-pumping as television gets.

Who could guess that one of the scariest hours of TV history would be largely silent?

Just imagine if your dead loved one came back to you but was being held prisoner by a demon.

Or if you could talk to your murdered girlfriend only to have that discussion turned into a nightmare.

The writers arent even big on killer clowns or creepy kids in hotel hallways.

The final scenes of The Queen are as devastating as anything in genre television over the past few years.

Plus, co-star John Carroll Lynch does fantastic supporting work.

The season premiere was the creepiest hour of TV in 2017 that didnt star Kyle MacLachlan.

Dont blink.

Blink and youre dead.

Dont turn your back.

They move if youre not looking at them.

Theyll kill you in the time it takes to blink.

Feel the hairs rising on the back of your neck?

Thats it saying hello.

Nothing is out of bounds from that point on.

From, Long Days Journey Into Night

It all started so innocently.

One where things come out at night.

These monsters dont just kill they torture and destroy.

Good luck getting some sleep tonight.

Hope you dont hear a knock at the window.

The best of the bunch reunitesThe Babadookdirector Jennifer Kent with the star of that film, Essie Davis.

First, the cat ends up dead in a freak accident and then sharp weapons keep popping up.

Then theres a hand in the fridge and the aforementioned blood shower.

This episode sets the risky tonal foundation on which every subsequent one is built.

In hindsight, its even more haunting because we know whats to come.

Consequently,Legionoften played with perspective in a manner that could produce nightmare fuel.

And cause some frightened viewers too.

Its an unapologetically dark chapter of this great show and truly terrifying.

When all else fails, though, its worth trusting thetruemaster of horror, John Carpenter.

A ton of people will be watchingHalloweenandThe Thingin the coming weeks, but dont forget about Cigarette Burns too.

Its his best directorial work this century.

He meets a young priest (the brilliant Hamish Linklater) who has a secret of his own.

Its a show thats hard to shake.

It basically turns something as intellectual as a California physics research center into a haunted house.

It must have been terrifying.

Fabrice Goberts concept is so great that the show has already been rebooted with an American remake.

That concept: What if your dead loved ones … just came back?

Not as brain-eating zombies but exactly as they were when they left your life.

This feature-length chapter centers Max and her struggle to escape the wrath of the demonic Vecna.

In fact, one could argue that the scariest image the show produced was in the season premiere.

Consider And All Through the House, a 1989 beauty by Robert Zemeckis.

Naw, just creepy villagers who like to eat people.

You might want to cancel that road trip about now.

Its a little dated, but theres an eerie power to its visuals thats timeless.

You could really just sample it all day on Halloween and find enough frights.

See that now if you have yet to do so.

Although season threes Seed might be more straight-up terrifying, Days Gone Bye is where theWalking Deadphenomenon began.

Directed by Frank Darabont, this episode felt like a breakthrough when it aired in 2010.
