I like juggling dynamite of whos already arguing about something and then figuring out ways into that.
Theres only a handful of comedians that would even dare to explore it.
If thats constantly happening behind closed doors, its not helping anything, in my opinion.
Theyre just now talking about Tulsa.
Now I did this show at City Winery, and I got checked.
They stress test the premise.
My comedian friends give me punch lines.
That was something that gave me a little more perspective in balancing the argument.
All of this preaching, TED Talk shit?
Save that for the one-man show.
What I realized was there was a problem with the way I sequenced the order of material.
So it resulted in a reordering of some of the material in front of it as well.
And this is two weeks before, going back and forth with my director.
Whats wild is Ive known my director since 2005, when I was doing morning radio.
Hes seen and watched me for years and years.
And he was just like, You need more time because the people are still processing that story.
And then youre saying, Thank you.
Its like,What?
Because its either that or just close on the story.
But then thats a left turn, and thats not fair.
They came to have a good time and kick it.
You cant just take a shit down their throat at the end.
Im going to be honest, man.
Theres a little bit of that in stand-up now.
Its cute, but its not sustainable.
But at what purpose?
What are we trying to accomplish in the long run?
My journey right after this the Comedy Central trilogy I think the journey for me is inward.
Its about my own feelings and fears.
Ill self-produce and just put out and keep the water wet.
Maybe I can sneak on late night and get away with something a little edgy that might be fun.
