There are worse places to be quarantined than the French Riviera.

But after years of working on boats, maybe shes earned the break.

Yachties are always in quarantine, so this isnt new for us, she says, laughing.

Malia hadnt worked on yachts before season two ofBelow Deck: Med, when she boarded theSiroccoas a deckhand.

I havent looked back since.

What is the boating world like right now? Were just as confused as the rest of the world.

So were all just waiting to see which ports are opening up for travel.

The Eastern Med is opening up, like Croatia and Greece.

Maybe not our normal routine but definitely some places.

Its been a few seasons since you were last on the show.

Ive gotten my 200-ton captains license, and Ive been an engineer.

Ive constantly stayed on yachts as deckhand and then worked my way up to bosun.

And Im not just this person; I can also lead the deck.

To do that for captain Sandy, that was amazing.

I admire her leadership in that sense.

And throughout the years, shed text me or send me messages like, What are you doing?

You could be doing this.

You sit in classrooms where its 90 percent men, and youre like,Should I be here?

Can I do this? And shes paved the road for that.

You got on the boat and you also saw that Hannahs still there, a few seasons later.

So I was just excited, really.

And obviously nervous, just to do my job and not have anything else be brought into it.

If anything, having people that Id worked with before helped my nerves.

You never know what kind of guys youre going to get.

And having grown up with a bunch of brothers, I know that they can have very unique personalities.

I was really just hoping to not get anyone who had too much pushback.

Well see; I think everyones going to enjoy this season with them.

Just ignore it and go for it, because equally, youre going to have people that push you.

Just surround yourself with the people that are going to push you to do what you want to do.

That would be pretty much the right-hand woman to the captain.

Its quite a bit of schooling, so Im ticking them off one by one.

And that means I can be on bigger boats, as a chief officer.
