Warmhearted and sweet are not adjectives typically used to describe vampire movies.

Oh, yeah, we also talked about Kiefer Sutherlands hotness inThe Lost Boys.

Lets start at the beginning: how did you get the role in the movie?

Did you have to audition?I actually didnt have to audition.

It was one of those scripts that was around for a long time.

This is like 10 years ago or more.

I watchedCluelessmore times than you’ve got the option to count.

All night, every night.

But you do start to get a little used to it.

We would film, like, 10 to 10 or seven to seven everyday, p.m. to a.m.

But I literally have the tinfoil on my windows in my apartment in Austin right now.

Mona May also did the costumes.

InVamps, I wore this vintage dress.

Its black, 80s kind of shoulders with these metal pieces that was actually Amy Heckerlings.

Oh, really?Yeah, because shes super gothed-out.

Working with Alicia was heaven.

We hit it off immediately.

So I was like, Yes, whatever shes eating, Im gonna eat that too.

But she was so generous, and we had so much fun together.

Dan Stevens totally blew up after that.

Sigourney Weaver, who I ended up working with again onDefenders.Getting to work with her was awesome.

You were talking about that dress earlier I imagine working with the costumes on this movie was pretty fun.

That would have been nice.

Who else is gonna be able to wear those?

I, like,reallylovedThe Lost Boys.

I really lovedThe Craft, and really lovedScream.

Growing up, that was exactly my bubble.

I went through a phase where I tried to get into witchcraft, like we all did.

That was my genre.

I like stuff thats heightened and elevated, but I also love how seriously the genre takes coming-of-age issues.

And the soundtrack: so good.

And hes so pale.

Theyre only noodles, Michael.

I just loved all of it.

It was Alicias line and that day Amy was just like, This line is really important.

This is what its all about.

It was what the movie was exactly about and it really came from Amys heart.

That theme comes through in a lot of the film.

Thats one of my favorite lines in the movie.Totally, totally.

Then theres the climactic scene near the end of the movie where youre trying to slay Sigourney Weaver.

It was very hard to you know, little girls and their grandpas.

I remember Sigourney Weaver being very generous with me and very loving.

She heard what happened.

You dont get to take a day off when youre an actress or in the business.

You still have to show up, so it was hard.

She knew and just kind of snuck up on me and gave me a lot of hugs and love.

So thats something that I remember from that experience.

Probably not the answer that youre looking for, but …

Thats nice, though.

How did being in that location work?It was hard.

We shut down Times Square.

We were racing against the sun coming up, of course.

We blocked up as much as we could.

I remember feeling a big emotional impact in that scene.

I was like, Hey.

Doing this vampire movie.

Thats the exciting thing about New York, right?

Like anything could happen.

You recentlydirected four episodesofThe Girl in the Woods, which just came out on Peacock.

And she was someone who I looked up to so much.

She had such a great eye and was such a great collaborator.

She made actors feel a part of the process.

Thats something that I always appreciate when Im an actor.

You want to feel a part of it.

WhenVampscame out, it didnt get a ton of attention.

Its one of those little, weird movies that is actually pretty cute and fun.
