Many looks, in fact.
2008sCloverfield, a found-footage film produced by Abrams, was not as good about that.
In fact, by 2010,he had been obliged to clarify that the films werent related.
Fortunately, he learned fromCloverfields missteps and crafted a truly breathtaking dude forSuper 8.

Admittedly, its not perfect.
There are few people of color present inSuper 8, which is disappointing and limiting.
And society has progressed past the need for a dead mom as shorthand for childhood trauma.
Sure, Occams razor would suggest that if a film isnt popular, it probably isnt good.
However: Isnt it just as possible that it was ahead of its time?
The Demogorgons look even evokes theSuper 8monsters.
So maybe audiences just werent ready forSuper 8in 2011.
To be fair, we didnt fail the movie entirely back then.
Roger Ebert gaveSuper 83 12 stars, and it holds a ripe score of 81 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
But the fact remains: We simply do not talk about this film enough!
