But the state of modern Hollywood almost requires that no property or character ever really ends.

To which I laughed.

And he said, No, Im serious.

Weve been talking a lot about Seven in the writers room.

And I was like, Wait, what?

Its actually happening?!

I love who shes become.

I love who shes become too.

Shes more rough-hewn and very lived in, and shes on an understandable quest for vengeance.

Shes always going to be visibly former Borg.

So I dont think shes had a terribly warm welcome back to the Alpha Quadrant.

Shes had a tough way to go.

Shes been through a lot of dark stuff, as you see in this episode, in flashbacks.

Im really excited to see where her storyline goes.

Bjayzl mentions that Seven has no hope.

Thats part of her arc this year.

What she goes through breaks my heart.

But I love that it shows her resilience.

Thats a fascinating aspect of her story, and obviously its something that connects her to Picard.

It was really fun to play with Patrick [Stewart], because hes a wonderful actor.

I think it speaks to people who have been through any sort of trauma or abuse.

[Laughs] Because shes so different.

This is a very different Seven to play as scripted.

The issue I had was finding her voice, because her voice was so different.

Her voice onVoyagerfor four years was really, really specific.

She changed, but her speech patterns didnt changethatmuch.

She was still very stylized and formal and sort of regimented in her speaking.

So I was really kinda freaking out.

Not kinda, I was.

When I read the script she was so loose and slang-y and cussing.

I just couldnt hear her.

I was really panicking about it and unsure how to find her.

So he came over and I made lunch and we read through the scenes.

He helped me out and talked me off the ledge.

Because as weve established, theyre literally hunted.

And that was it.

We can definitely tell its the same person.

Of course, you have to make physical choices as well, its not just about the voice.

Costumes are hugely helpful for that, to find the physicality of the character.

Was there anything specific you had in mind?

I know watching episode five I noticed how different Sevens walk is.The walk is definitely different.

You have to put thought into all of that.

It was like,How does she sit?

How does she walk?Again, the clothes are incredibly helpful in that regard.

Yeah, usStar Trekfans will really comb through things!Oh, you guys do not mess!

I mean any character you bring back 20 years on its going to be intimidating.

You feel an obligation to the fans to not screw it up for them.

Its an enormous amount of pressure that I think all of us felt.
