Who better to turn to for under-the-radar comedy recommendations than comedians?
Much of the conversation about the breakout Apple TV+ hitTed Lassohas revolved around Ted Lasso himself.
He isnt as outgoing or as blatantly magnanimous as Ted.
But Ted Lasso, the man and the series, wouldnt be Ted Lasso without him.
Tell me about yourTed Lassojourney.
I havent eaten or gone to the bathroom.
You accept it as true and then you add on to it.
What I love about Coach Beard is hes the ultimate yes, and character.
Brendan just fully lives within yes, and in the way he plays that character.
After theyd made it but before it aired.
I really want to be involved.
I feel like I watched the same thing happen to the audience.
Im like, Really?
Because its all I see.
I feel like you were told.
Youve got a little bit of edge to it.
First of all, is that something we might learn more about in season two?Yes.
I wont spoil anything, but the informations forthcoming.
At first, Ted doesnt seem to know who any of the players are.
He has no knowledge of the rules of the game.
Is there a scene from the first season that stands out to you?
They do a lot of fun things with puns.
I think thats in episode two.I love the puns.
I love that they do a lot of references to musicals.
I just love this guy who knows everything about soccer and musicals.
And Beard goes, Im going to be one of them.
When you cut back to them, you see all the players crying overIron Giant.
Up until that point in the series, hes been pretty still.
You just get these little hints of whats going on inside.
Have you met Brendan?No.
So we have now worked on two television shows together, and weve never met.
I wonder if this is a challenge for you all as writers.
Its a mistake that I feel we keep making when we reboot certain things.
Thats the person we have more questions about.
But if they did a reboot about Gunther, I would watch that.
Ted brings so much positivity and joy into everyones life.
Would Beards life be less joyful without him?
Is it a gritty reboot?

See, I was thinking what if its aQueens Gambitthing but just about his chess club?Thats hilarious.
I mean, people love chess.Yeah, I love that.
And him just getting way too into it.
Chess has just swallowed up his entire life.
And finally, Beard calls him out on it and is like, No, winnings important.
These guys are professional athletes.
Its literally the only time you see a really extreme passion and anger from him.
So I wonder if maybe thats what hes like in the chess world.
I learned this from a 6-year-old.
I think we put such a premium on being nice, which can sometimes be fake.
Youre just smiling at someones face or going along to get along, that kind of niceness.
Being kind sometimes means not being nice.
Youre being nice to Roy, but youre not being kind.
you should probably do the kind, responsible thing here.
Im a very verbal performer and improviser, and Ill sort of talk my way to a laugh.
Something Brendans really good at is getting it with just one word or one look.
Thats definitely something Im working on.
